The basic pay for a soldier is only one part of the Army total compensation package.

Compensation Components

Our comprehensive compensation package is designed to reward the dedication and sacrifice of our service members.

Base Pay

Base pay is determined by rank and years of service. All service members receive base pay, which is taxable and forms the foundation of military compensation.

Allowances

Tax-free allowances include Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) to cover housing and food expenses.

Bonuses

Incentive bonuses are available for enlistment, reenlistment, and critical skill assignments to retain experienced personnel in key roles.

Special Pay

Additional compensation for hazardous duty, combat zones, flight duty, submarine duty, and other special assignments or skills.

Benefits

Comprehensive benefits include health care, dental coverage, life insurance, retirement plans, and education assistance programs.

Veteran Benefits

Post-service benefits include VA home loans, GI Bill education benefits, disability compensation, and preference in federal hiring.
